What is the Ghost Bucket Workshop?
Every autumn, one class sells out faster than any other. The vessel at the center of it all is the Bethany Lowe Ghost Bucket, a vintage-inspired, handcrafted papier-mache piece that has become one of the most coveted Halloween home decor items. What Happens at the Workshop?
Our Ghost Bucket Workshop is a floral arranging class held right here in our Midway shoppe, and it is one of our favorite nights of the year. The shop fills up, the stems come out, and something magical happens when a room full of people get their hands into flowers together.
Here is exactly how the class works.
Step 1: Select Your Fall Florals
The table is set with an abundant spread of seasonal autumn blooms — dahlias, gerbera daisies, garden roses, amaranth, dried hydrangea, preserved ferns, sunflowers, and all the earthy, warm-toned foliage that makes fall arrangements feel so deeply satisfying. Part of the joy of this class is the selection process itself. You wander the Flower Bar, you pick up stems, you hold them next to each other and decide what feels right. There are no wrong choices, only your choices.
We encourage variety. Mix fresh and dried, tall and low, bold and delicate. The contrast is what makes a fall floral arrangement feel rich and alive.
Step 2: Prep Your Vessel
Before a single stem goes in, we prep the vessel. A small vase is placed inside the ghost bucket to hold water and keep your fresh blooms drinking. Then comes the part that changes everything: floral tape.
Using floral tape, we create a grid across the top of the inner vase, dividing the opening into small sections. This grid is the secret to a full, structured arrangement that holds its shape. Each section becomes a designated home for a stem, keeping everything in place and giving the arrangement the kind of architectural fullness that is very hard to achieve otherwise.
Step 3: Add Your Stems One at a Time
Now the real fun begins. Working one stem at a time, owner Shawn Bailey will guide you in placing your florals into the taped grid, starting with your largest blooms and filling in with smaller accent flowers and dried foliage as you go. Shawn walks you through the process, offering guidance on placement, height, and balance, but the vision is entirely your own.
Step 4: Fill In, Step Back, Admire
As the arrangement fills in, the ghost bucket transforms. What started as an empty vessel becomes a lush, overflowing autumnal flower arrangement in the most gorgeous fall palette. Dried ferns spill over the edges, dahlias and garden roses anchor the center, and warm foliage fills every gap.

Beyond the flowers and the craft, what makes this workshop so special is the feeling in the room. Women come with their mothers, their sisters, their best friends, their coworkers. They laugh, they help each other, they steal stem ideas from the person next to them. It is one of the most enchanting evenings we host all year!
